Dubai: Applications
can be filed starting next Tuesday for new visit visas which were
revamped under a Federal ruling last June, a senior residency
department official said on Tuesday.
The new fee schedule
for the visas, which range from visit visas to visas for medical
treatment should have started August 1, according to an earlier
announcement, but have been pushed forward due to the weekend holidays.
July 30 is an official government holiday. The rules apply to
nationalities who currently have to get sponsorship before arriving in
the country.
The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) and the Economic Department will meet with representatives of hotels, tourist agencies, hospitals and educational institutions on Wednesday to brief them on how the changes will be implemented.
UAE's leading telco, etisalat was recently ranked as the world's fastest growing mobile operator. The study as conducted by Informa Telecoms and Media. With annual increase of 106.4%, etisalat placed itself well ahead of second place, Kuwaiti based Zain Group.
Telekom Malaysia was ranked at number three - with an annual increase of 57.8%.

Dubai: etisalat was recently ranked as the world's fastest-growing mobile operator, in a study conducted by Informa Telecoms and Media.
According to proportionate subscription growth in the first quarter of 2008, etisalat came in first with 106.4 per cent increase compared with the previous quarter, achieving a proportionate mobile subscriber base of 24.2 million across 16 markets in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
The study ranked operator groups on the total number of mobile subscriptions based on their percentage ownership of mobile operators.
The second fastest growing mobile operator as per subscriber increase was Zain, the Kuwait-based operator that provides services in seven Middle Eastern and 14 African countries.
The group's proportionate subscribers grew at 70.31 per cent during the period to 32.9 million.
Dubai successfully placed itself in the global map with its award winning "public stunts" - from the sponsorships of world renowned soccer clubs, world's most expensive horse race and to iconic projects such as world's tallest building and expensive venture into the corporate world.

The once world's tallest building was acquired by Abu Dhabi Investment Council for an undisclosed price.
The purchase of Chrysler Building will certainly place Abu Dhabi as a formidable contender for the Region's brand powerhouse - a status symbol that long being held by Dubai.

New York: New York's Chrysler Building, the Art Deco icon that helps define the New York skyline, was bought by an Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, the second purchase of a Manhattan landmark by Middle East investors in many months.
The skyscraper at 405 Lexington Avenue, the world's tallest building until 1931, was acquired yesterday by the Abu Dhabi Investment Council for an undisclosed price. Last month a Dubai fund, Boston Properties, and Goldman Sachs Group paid $2.8 billion for the General Motors Building.
