Hari ke-45: Peremba Officer Case to be Heard Today!
DUBAI, Oct 16 (Bernama) — The case of Peremba Construction Dubai
branch senior manager Zainal Adnan Khairuddin, charged with signing two
company cheques, which were subsequently dishonoured, has been
postponed to October 23 (tomorrow).
EARLIER REPORT Sept 23 (Bernama) -- A senior official of Peremba Construction Dubai Branch has been in the police lockup here for the last two weeks after he was detained for allegedly signing two company cheques which were subsequently dishonoured.
Zainal Adnan Khairuddin, 39, had signed the cheques in his capacity as the company's senior manager (finance).
He was the second signatory of the two cheques of one million dirham (about RM938,000) each.
His case was brought before the Dubai Court here today but was postponed to October 16 pending a settlement between Peremba and Kele Contracting, a manpower supply company hired by Peremba, which had cashed the cheques.
3Zainal Adnan's lawyer, Ali Mohammad Tamim, said it was a criminal offence here to sign cheques "without any funds".
"It is considered bad intention. However, Zainal Adnan is innocent as he signed the cheques only as an employee of the company. He is just an employee. It is the company which is responsible," he told Bernama here after the case was mentioned in court.
Mohammad Tamim said the case was postponed pending a settlement being negotiated by the two companies.
Peremba Construction is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PECD, a construction, development and engineering, procurement, construction and commission (EPCC) company.
Meanwhile, Peremba Construction Dubai Branch human resource manager Ahmad Nor Izam Mohd Sabawi said the two parties are negotiating for a settlement.
"A draft of an out-of-court settlement has already been completed and we are now waiting for the funds to be transferred here. We hope it can be settled as soon as possible," he said.
He said he has been made to understood that Kele Contracting has already agreed to the terms and conditions of the settlement.
Nor Izam said the other signatory of the cheques was the company's Middle East general manager whose contract has already expired and has not been extended.
He said that the issue cropped up after the termination of the company's Oceana Palm Jumeirah project recently.
After the termination, Kele Contracting, which had done work for 20 days for the Oceana project by that time, wanted payment of 700,000 dirham (about RM657,000).
"Before negotiations concerning the money could be finalised, the company had banked in the two security cheques," he said after the court sitting.
Nor Izam explained that since the security cheques were supposed to be replaced by a letter of credit, when Kele Contracting banked in the cheques, "of course they bounced".
He said Group Chief Executive Officer Rosman Abdullah has been given the mandate by the board to settle the matter as soon as possible.
Also present in court today were Zainal Adnan's wife, Arina Abdullah, 41, children, Ali, 15, and Najwa, 13, Malaysia's Consul General Noraslan Hadi Abdul Kadir and friends of the family.

Zainal sememangnya seorang yang amanah dan sekarang jadi mangsa keadaan. He certainly doesn't deserve this. To the Company, please be responsible. What ever it takes Zainal has to be out of there !!! He doesn't deserve to be behind bars. To all fellow Malaysian in Dubai thank you for caring for our dear friend and his family. Sama-sama kita doakan agar dipermudahkan perjalanan hidup mereka. Ameen.

Iyer la kan,
macam mana pun "semua" in Paremba most top management, have to pay a respect to Zainal, dia bukan tukang sapu tepi jalan. He's a senior staff that representing Paremba.
Amin.
