Freezing UAE, tonite!
UAE set to welcome its coldest night this year said the Dubai Met office. Sharjah, as the Met's forecast will dip to a minimum of 9C during the night, while the capital will see a slight higher temperature of 12C. The Met has also issued a marine warning, advising boats not to go to the sea. Full report here
No more FREE bags!
Geant supermarket in Dubai bags the title "the 1st supermarket in the UAE" to charge its customers for plastic bags! Ordinary plastic bags will cost 25 fils each, while reusable jute bags are available for Dhs.5 each. Customers who choose to return the ordinary plastic bags get a credit note (for the same value of the bags). As reported by Gulf News, the move is part of the celebrations for UAE's national Environment Day. Gulf News further reports that two more hypermarkets will soon join the bandwagon. It is common in several parts of the globe for super/hypermarkets to charge their customers for the shopping bags.
