Dubai Motor Show Drives the Crowd!

Dubai, UAE Dubai Motorshow, known as the Middle East International Motorshow opens its 9th edition today at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center. Several world launch is said to be taken place at the motorshow.

Among the main attraction at this year's show is the Shelby Aero - said to be the fastest production car.  The supercar achieved a blazing speed of 241 mph in its transmission test.

Touted as the largest auto motorshow in the Region, the exhibition opens till November 18th (from 11 am till 10 pm for all days except November 16th, from 3 pm till 10 pm). Tickets are available online and on site.

Dubai Merdeka Race: Hamiz Wins!

SPECIAL REPORT: REDZA JAMIL   We started with the short briefing just after 9.30pm all eager to go.  Karts were assigned, adrenalin pumping into our veins.

As the engines start we sat in our karts in the pit lane waiting.  Sweat starting to trickle in our racing suits as the marshal waves us to go. The qualifying session is on!

We had five flying laps each and some literally went flying - over the kerbs of course.

As we finished this session we lined up before the grid waiting, wondering - who's in pole position?

As it turned out it was Hamiz, with yours truly being second fastest. Third fastest was Razmyn from Abu Dhabi.

Now we're lining up for Race One - the sprint race.  8 laps.  From a standstill the race was flagged.  Go! Go! Go!

Around the first corner the order was Hamiz, Razmyn and Redza.  All three kept the pace and the short race came to an end in that order.

UAE Merdeka Race!

Dubai, UAE Buat julung kalinya, peminat sukan go-kart akan menyaksikan perlumbaan hebat yang bakal membariskan bakat Malaysiana (yang lama memendam rasa) d UAE ini. UAE Merdeka Kart Championship akan berlansung malam esok (Jumaat, Ogos 24) d Dubai Kartdrome bermula jam 10 malam.

Ketika d hubungi myUAE sebentar tadi, penganjur dan salah seorang pelumba favorite, Redza Jamil membayangkan perlumbaan malam esok akan berlansung dengan penuh debaran dan aksi ala F1. Beliau menjemput peminat untuk datang beramai-ramai memberi sokongan moral.

Seorang lagi yang d katakan menjadi favorite untuk menjuarai kejuaraan sulung UAE Merdeka Kart Championship ialah pemandu berasal dari Teluk Kemang, NS (bukan Negeri Sepanyol, Negeri Sembilan) Busri Alonso. Beliau gagal d hubungi, d fahamkan sedang berada d UK untuk latihan peringkat akhir.

Enter the rumormill: VW won bid to control Proton

Motor Authority came across an article in XFN-Asia that says VW won the bidding contest for controlling stake of Malaysia's Proton. Although the report is light on details, it seems that a source who was privy to the deal confirmed that Volkswagen will be purchasing the required 51-percent of Proton's manufacturing arm and that an official statement will be released on February 8th.

If the source is to be trusted, that means that both GM and PSA Peugeot-Citroen were ousted from the runnings, which is little surprise, as VW has had a long standing relationship with the state-owned automaker.

Santa Fe!

Hyundai's Santa Fe is a great SUV. Lots of 'em seen on Shaikh Zayed Road. Awarded the Autobytel's SUV of the Year for 2007. Still, as mentioned by Autoblog, could not get the attention!

So how? Think outside the box. Think different!

New Hyundai 4WD!

Looks good. RX-ish (Lexus). Murano wannabe?

Some good reviews too. Check out the new Hyundai Veracruz. Said to be the replacement for its older sibling, Terracan. 7 seater. 3.8L, V8.

Hyundai says it is larger than Honda MRV. More cargo space than Merc GL. Great styling. Car-like ride. Premium leather and much more!
